I go about 60 miles before hitting water deep enough for a sure yellow fin bite, but typically I end up further than that. Right now the bite is great. They were hitting everything coming their way. We even manged our biggest of the day a little afternoon on that trip. There are a string of rigs spaced anywhere from 10 to 15 miles from each other. It seems to work best going long and working your way back north. That's the conventional wisdom anyway on a 27' World Cat. The yellow fin taste great and are a hell of a rush, but a light tackle jigging rod make those black fin a world of fun too. I look forward getting out there again soon and seeing more from you. Good luck Paul.

Absolutely mate, the barramundi is a great table fish and it is said to have approx 70% fillet recovery rate and combined with great sporting acts when hooked makes a well sort after fish. The barra are restricted by legal sizes and on the west coast of queensland are a minimum of 60cms - maximum of 120cms, must be released under or over that size by law.All barra are males when born then change to female approx around the 68cms and above depending on enviroment and temperatures.Females over the 80cms mark produce approx 3,000,000 eggs and the big horse females over 120cms produce upto 33,000,000 eggs hence the reason they are protected over that size.My mates and I do alot of tag and release to monitor there growth and there travelling habits...its quite amazing some of the results...cheers paul.
