We've only done the beaches for tarpon but that seems to get old fast due again to all the boats. When they start running this spring we thought we would go to the bay and just 86 the mahem on the beach. That seems to be our nemesis fish, every time we head out the bait well clogs, trolloing motors break etc... We had the same issue with Mahi, I swore it was because we bought a Dorado...so while bottom fishing last year in the keys we suddenly saw a school just barely out of reach, well I heaved a crusty, three day old dried up sardine I peeled off the deck with as much umph as I could and got one to bite and then the frenzy was on! I think Tarpon in this boat is the only thing left. Do you do nights or early AM in the bay?
As far as Aug and inshore.....It has been so good its not even funny! You name it you'll catch it if you know the waters! We haven't had red tide in a few years so the numbers are up.
The wind has been brutal! We've been getting out early to avoid some of it. Grouper is pretty good in the bay if you can get around the "fleet" of amateur boaters. In shore has been a little slow, although trout have been good. We cleaned up on Sea Bass a few weeks ago just a few miles off shore. If you can get out during a week day the Skyway is easy pickings but it seems like just since last year the number of boats there on the weekend have doubled
