Set gill nets are permitted with certain mesh size/timing restrictions in the sounds.  Beach seines (beach-launched dory-towed nets) are permitted on a limited basis in the surf.  "Drop nets" (gill nets placed from boats) are also permitted with certain restrictions.  Set nets are supposed to be set and retrieved daily.  Unfortunately, by-catch causes a lot of uncontrolled kills, but that's true of any netting operation.  FL pretty well proved the impact of gill nets on fish populations after they outlawed them..

Hey Mike. Have'nt been on in a while. I did not fish the classic. One of my nieghbors won it with a 41+ fish. Been doing a lot of offshore fishing when the weather permits. Time to start drifting the inlet with some eels.

Mike,
Hello! Sorry. It's been a little crazy busy around here lately. I have been in the Bahamas the couple weekends before, then had the Miami Dolphin fishing tournament last weekend. I'll upload some pictures hopefully soon. I didn't get to fish due to the bad weather in Miami. The island actually got flooded out so I never made it to the marina the night before. Anyways... Let me know the dates that you are coming down and I will check on my schedule. Tarpon aren't great to catch here in Fort Lauderdale. I would recommend going to the Everglades Park(Florida city at the top of the Keys) for that. I can recommend a few guides for there. If you want to stay in Ft. Laud. area I can make some calls once I know your dates. That would be for Dolphin, Tuna and fish like that up here. Do you have a number on what you want to spend on a charter? The reason why I ask, there are so many different sizes of boats plus you can split trips with people on larger charter boats.
I'd be happy to go out for a day and take pictures. Yea, twist my arm to go out on a boat, in the sun to take pictures of people catching fish and having fun...
Take care! Jean

Mike,
Hello! Happy Monday! Hope you had a great weekend! Sorry it took so long to respond. I have been in the Bahamas. Are you interested in a guide? Just wondering because in my profile it doesn't really specify how I work in the industry... I do photography, marine art and clothing designs. I can help you with guides or a charter if you tell me where you are going and what you are interested in.
Thanks!
Jean

I'll be keeping my boat in West babylon this year so i'll be fishin the fire inlet mostly although i usually do pretty good west of jones in the spring.
