Quintana Beach

Some fisherman I am. We took the motorhome down to Freeport and had reservations at Quintana Beach RV Park. We got there early Tuesday of last week and stayed until Friday morning. It was windy and HOT HOT HOT! Not even the first day of Summer yet...YIKES! The fishing sucked. There are a few spots to fish but you either surf fish from the beach or off of the bank which is bordered by huge rocks. Just a little tricky but do-able. We tried both but absolutely nothing was biting. You have the…See More

Rollover Fish Pass Part II

Posted on March 9, 2009 at 11:24am 0 Comments

We did finally ride the ferry over to Bolivar yesterday. The last time I was over there was camping out at Rollover Fish Pass with my friend Julie. That was about 2 weeks prior to Hurricane Ike. I really did not know what to expect to see...but more of what not to see. I knew that most homes and businesses were just no longer there...mostly washed out to sea. I have posted a few pictures to show the aftermath of Ike. It is depressing but at the same time there are a few signs of life and… Continue

Rollover Fish Pass

Posted on February 25, 2009 at 2:59pm 3 Comments

I love to fish the Pass...or should I say that I loved to fish there. I haven't had the heart to go down there and check things out since the hurricane. I hear that the dunes are all gone...there is no bait stores or any stores. They have fixed the bridge but that is all that I know. I had planned on retiring down there and I guess I still do...Hopefully by that time it will be rebuilt somewhat. I figure I have at least 10 years to go.

So this weekend I am taking my truck on down to… Continue

Thanks, my sister had her woes too. She lost her house to a grass fire a year ago last week of January. A fire that took my shop and three of my vehicles. My house was saved. Our family has a fishing cabin in Rockport. It is only a hop and a skip from Port Aransas and I try to go as often as I can. The salt air and water has always been soothing to my soul. A good fish on the end of my line pleases me too.

My cousin used to live on Bolivar Peninsula. While she was at her sister's wedding in Chicago Hurricane Ike happened and took her beach house. She lost a couple of friends who decided to ride it out. She had been living a dream come true up to that point. Good luck to you.
