Frigate mackerel in Sydney Harbour

Went shore fishing over the weekend in the harbour. Frigate Mackerel were tearing it up. They're hard to catch and one cut straight through my line. So my mission is to try and catch them. Tried soft plastics but I think the retrieve was too slow. One of them popped up and had a look at a metal I chucked in, but was having none of it. Frustrating but great fun.See More

Can anybody identify this fish? It was caught near Hinchenbrook (Lucinda) in Queensland on live bait in June or July. I haven't been able to identify it at all. Any help appreciated. Cheers!

happened to us aswell, at western port bay, was using 80lb leader, got bitten off, didn't get to see it, changed to 150lb wire , not one more touch for the rest of the day. Don't you just hate that...

Fishing and Earth Hour

Went fishing last night in Sydney Harbour so we could watch the lights turn off for Earth Hour. A most glorious night for fishing - calm, light noreasterly breeze. My biggest problem with night fishing is you can't see the ones that get away. Hooked something monstrous and just about had it in when it bit me off! I still don't know what it was and it's driving me crazy.

Fly Fishing Film Festival - Gin Clear

OK, so not strictly 100% saltwater, but I thought Aussies would be interested in this: a film festival about fly fishing! It's hosted by Nick Reygaert from Gin-Clear Media (with whom I have no affiliation...I just think it's a tops idea). You can find info about the festival, including screening dates and so on at http://www.gin-clear.com/gin-clear%20Film%20Festival/Venues.html
