Sounds like fun. Did you see that video of the killer whales in the gulf last year? Those guys were tuna fishing out of Orange Beach. I know the guys and a lot of the video they took was pretty funny.

T - 3 days and counting

We are on our way again. Woohoo. Hopefully we'll get some good weather and calm seas so we can troll for some kings. I guess the crab traps will go up in wolf bay. Sunday at 2 will see my ass at Pirates Cove for open mic then more fun and sun.

Thanks Blake. We had pretty good luck this summer at night too, it's just a pain to get away from the wives after dark. You know, we are so hot they can't believe we're just fishing.

Kevins right about trolling and cigar minnows and squid are good for bottm fishing the rigs. I think live bait is usually caught around the jetties and pier - pin fish - and used on the bottom too. I don't know that they could be that much…

"It's not a heavy hand to keep people from fishing we want more people fishing," West said. "But there are times when it's not appropriate to throw a bunch of bloody bait around people swimming."

Snap Snap

1) Remember that big snapper easily can become line- and hook-shy. Generally light line and hooks the snapper can't see will produce more and bigger fish.

2) Anticipate the bite. If you've fished long enough to know when a snapper should bite, you can set the hook before you feel the fish take the bait.

3) Chum them up. Sometimes you can bring snapper to the surface by throwing out chum or hanging a chum bag overboard.

4) Pull snapper away from the wreck or the… Continue

Flounder Pounding

Posted on May 29, 2009 at 7:50am 0 Comments

The flounder usually will hold on the jetties or any other rock piles as well as on docks and piers and in drainages coming from the marshes. My favorite bait for flounder is live bull minnows. If our area gets a strong southern wind, the incoming tide will push baitfish up against the rocks along the jetties and sea walls. That’s where you’ll locate flounder. Early morning is your best bite for flounder, but you also can catch them at night. When the tide’s falling, you’ll find flounder in the… Continue

chumming for Kings

Posted on May 29, 2009 at 7:30am 1 Comment

In June, we can catch king mackerel at the mouths of the passes. We like to either float live cigar minnows or troll big swim baits. Another good technique is to anchor-up outside the pass, put out a chum bag and float dead baits behind the boat in that chum slick. Remember, the king mackerel have sharp teeth like the Spanish mackerel, so use wire leader when fishing for them. The king mackerel also will move into the bays, chasing schools of menhaden.
