Dog Days of Summer... 2010

It has certainly been a while since I have been able to update my blog on Saltwater-Index. I sold my 17 HPX-V about a month ago and it has been the longest month ever without a skiff. I did get to do a little fishing in between on my buddie's boats. One of my fishing buddies even let me borrow his skiff for a weekend. We spent a couple of days fishing the Marquesas towards the end of July and had a great time catching snappers, Permit, bonefish, and cobia. The fishing was tough when the weather…See More

Transition... Tarpon Summer to Bonefish Fall

The muggy temps outside are almost gone, as the cool downs are forming over the Keys now in the form of dark clouds and rain. The sound of thunder thumps through the sky and simotaneously the push pole makes a buzzing sound almost like as if you were at a World Cup game. As the flow of tarpon starts to thin out on the ocean side, the wave of bonefish that tail through the day will continue to get better. We've sat out the worse downpours the last few days just to experience times when the water…See More

Hawks Cay, Saltwater Experience Sunset Tarpon Shoot

recently accepted an invite from Tom and Rich of Saltwater Experience to ride out on their camera boat and shoot some still images during the filming of a sunset Tarpon show. Being an avid tarpon fly fisherman, bait fishing was something somewhat foreign to me but admitedly, watching a tarpon come up and crush a mullet struggling on the surface was a pretty cool sight. I was caught off guard during several cool scenes that would have made for great…See More

Tarpon….

This is the one fish that drives all of us dedicated fly fisherman nuts come March, April, May, June, July, and even into August. The continuing cold spells this past winter and early spring have kept the fish from making their early migration. Anglers like us were housed in and on days when we just can’t take it anymore, we would sneak out anyways and sit at our favorite tarpon holes, hoping that we’d catch one stray fish wandering by. For as many times in the early…
