Charles- on the flounder question, I have never tried but I've watched some people gig them snorkeling the shallow areas during the day. The water is so clear that you can see them just floating on the surface in 3 to 6 ft of water. I believe the ar…
The cape has terrific fishing and there are all kinds of ways to get them depending upon what you're after. I usually put the boat in at the state park and run out to the deeper grass beds which are in approx. 8 to 10 ft. of water. I always bring a…
Joe - ladyfish are also know as the "poor man's tarpon" because they're easy and inexpensive to catch. Most anyone can have a ball catching them when they find a school feeding. They will hit most anything. They have a rough bony jaw that will wear…
Pinfish are great offshore bait if your bottom fishing. They also work well for trout in the bay and intercoastal. Most any baitshop will sell pinfish traps. They look similar to crab traps. You can put most any kind of fish for bait in the trap and…
Southern fried fish
1 to 2 cups of plain yellow corn meal (depends on how much fish) and put in zip lock bag or paper sack
2 to 3 spoons of cajun season
2 - 3 shakes lemon pepper
1 spoon of cayenne pepper (if you like a little heat)
close the bag…
Joe - we had the same situation in the panhandle earlier this year. I think two things happen with lots of rain. The water gets dirty and the salinity levels drop. Neither of these help the fishing. I think the fish move farther out for better water…
I agree with Will Scott. We should discuss topics outside of fishing on other sites. My opinion about the lack of use of this site, is that there are probably local fishing forums that discuss what is going on in each person's local waters. I'm in P…
What is your ideal day of fishing; what method and species to go after the most?
Most Ideal Day? fair skies & calm seas / I fish for multiple species depending upon the season - kingfish, spanish, dolphin, wahoo, tuna, grouper, snapper, bull reds
Brent,
as usual, thanks for the info. they come in to the shore line at odd times. they are a blast to catch. i'l probably keep on e of the shorter ones and cut it up for bait. i'll keep you posted. thanks Brent,
Joe
Brent,
thanks for the response, you have answered several of my guestions in the past and i appreciate that. by "farther out" do you mean casting distance from shore or wait it out till they come in? i wonder how long the ocean takes for reach normal salinity. suppose that depends on additional fresh, currents, tides ect.
Yeah it was high tide..they ran for about an hour then around 8:30 they started running again the Blues were also running, didn't see any ly's though, think it's a little early in the season for them,My soon said thanks for the compliment on the Spec,he was proud of it so was I.I got them all cleaned & fried up the Spec he tasted so good..Most all of them had roe in them ,guess they are getting ready to bed, hope you get to go fishing the weekend,Im back to work now...
yeah I think they are the same motors too...lol..We caught a lot of nice size spots & ground mullet yesterday,my son also caught a 28" speckle trout it weighed 9 lbs,a lady down from us caught an over the limit red around 8:30 last night,I hung into something big it looked like a red but it snapped my line as it came to the surface & it was almost dark,so I'm not really sure what it was.Damn catfish finned me pretty deep in my hand so we had to pack up & leave now I've got to get busy cleaning all the fish, everyone had to work today but me so I get all the fun of cleaning them, the spanish starting running around 5 pm
Good Morning Brent,I'm on my way out to the Bridge gonna give it a shot, they've been catching Reds on the Gulf Breeze side the last few days,I've never caught a big one so wish me luck...And you are right the Johnson motors aren't all they say they are ,nothing but a pain in my rear..lol..
thanks Brent, still a bit unsure about breaking the reels down completly. i also like the cabo over the boca. do you pack them with reel greese ?, use hot sauce? is it possible i over lube? the fishing shack guy charges a bunch to "clean" but i bet i do as good a job. Brent, i by no means abuse the equipment, but during the summer months, it is not uncommon to fish for 10 hrs a day for 10 days straight. after a day or two they start to tightn up, that's normal right?
one more thing and i'll leave you alone, .. line twist. i use a spro barrel w/ 4 lb braid and a floro leader with a rooster tail. very VERY effective. line twist has been reduced over the years but i still have to run up the waters edge unatached for about 100 yrds or so 2 or 3 times a day to keep from getting loops and losing my braid,, the roller bearing is working. is that the nature of the beast or is there something i don't get? thanks for your time
Joe Mazzola
Yeah! I know what you mean about getting beat up by the wind...It seems that the water is a bit more clear in the sound than the bay..My son went out sat. night with a friend to the bridge he came home with a cooler full of white trout & ground mullet but no Spanish,he said it got pretty windy a few times...I'm still trying to get my boat up & running again ,I've got to get a new ign. switch for it now ,got it ordered hope it won't be too long getting here..I might go try my luck Thurs. or Fri. when I'm off...Have a good week..
Hey Brent, Have you had any luck with catching Spanish yet? Some family members went out to the bridge yesterday caught a few big ground mullet & several white trout & 2 spanish.
