Flounder are on the run in G-Town...and so are the turtles

Posted on October 5, 2009 at 8:49am 1 Comment

I had a weird yet wonderful morning this past Saturday. The hubby and I waded into Seawolf park at about 5:00am. The water was chilly, but I got used to it soon enough. I was slow dragging finger mullet across the bottom and my second cast I felt that familliar boble! I slacked my line a tiny bit and started counting... one one thousand, two one thousand all the way to 10 then I pulled back to set the hook. The pull was strong and I started… Continue

Texas City Sunday Morning June 28, 2009

Posted on June 29, 2009 at 11:30am 0 Comments

This is what it looked like wading in off of Skyline drive Sunday Morning. The view was amazing! The water was warm and alive with fish (mostly babies)

The fish were biting we caught many undersized specs (between 12 & 14 inches) & two keepers (17 & 19), 8 rat reds, 2 blacktips, croakers out the wazoooo and a couple of I think they are called Pompano? The water was alive and the mullet were running scared. I hooked into… Continue

DEEP SEA with Galveston Party Boats was a blast!

Posted on June 9, 2009 at 2:30pm 2 Comments

Well the morning started out with me grabbing two left shoes and not noticing till we were on Harborside drive in Galveston....

My first thought was "this is not a good sign'. Our group showed up on time (amazing), everyone boarded and off we went into the wild blue (well actually it was more brown than blue) yonder. The trip out was a little rough or ruff however you spell that and lots of people were RALPHIN. One poor fellow was stuck on the… Continue

JUST 6 MORE DAYS!

Posted on June 2, 2009 at 12:14pm 0 Comments

Well I'm getting excited! Just 6 more days till we go deepsea!

We go every year in a group of somewhere between 9-14 people. Both men and women, youngsters and old folks too. It doesn't matter if you are an experienced serious fisherperson or not the deck hands are there to help and we always have a blast!

We go out with Galveston Party Boats and leave out of pier 19. It is sometimes a little crowded, but we manage to… Continue

I have pics of hers also. Ron's chartering info is on there also until he gets his website created. Think we will be working on that next week. Do you work? my email address is dgideon1@comcast.net

hey billie, long time...i've been inundated with getting my vacation rental on the market after Ike, and it was completed today....woooo hooooo. After 5 yrs I've started dating again and have met a really gr8 guy. He is a fishing guide and boy has he put me on some fish. I've had fun catching & releasing bull reds, grilling excellent black tip, frying whole flounders, plus I caught the biggest croaker ever which was yummy. Floundering has been sluggish the past couple weeks but I look for it to turn on anytime, we gotta another little cold front coming this week so maybe that will get them moving. Oh, btw, he and his son are both captains and I shocked the heck out of them when I brought in the first flounder....hehehe....some of our daddy's taught us more than just manners! good hearing from u....

Hi again Billie,
I am not a guide at this time. I am learning to fish the Galveston Bay area at this time. I moved from N. Florida 6 months ago and I was an inshore, offshore, guide, captain, mate for a charter boat called SIS from Amelia Island, FL. We fished the ST MARYS inlet, Cumberland Island sound, up to 75 miles offshore. I also like to fish the jettys and beach. The Nassau sound was an actual fish sanctuary for spawning large black drum, redfish, sharks, and more. Excellent fishing area.
Right now, though, I am learning to sail as a profession, so I can make money to maybe be able one day to get my own fishing boat. I am more of a sport fisher type, but I do love to eat fish and usually try for flounder, grouper, and snapper when I need a seafood meal. I will fish anywhere and anytime I get an opportunity, and I did start out on my own fishing in a ditch! LOL. My daddy took me fishing so much, that when I wasn't with him; I would go down to the ditch where the small creek ran with a couple of my little buddies and show them how to catch fish in the creek with bait out of the ditch. HEE HEE I remember it so fondly. I would use crickets, grasshoppers, dragonflies, tadpoles, you name, worms, etc. These guys have never forgotten, either. I do it for the fun of it, I just love to fish.

Yeah, I love my Dad. He passed away when I was 16 years old. He was my inspiration tribute to fishing. I have lots of photos not scanned also. One, since you mentioned them, a picnic table covered in flounders that we caught one day. I was about 10 yrs old from what I can remember of it. But I do remember that I had to help clean them all with No-seeums (nats, as I call them) crawling all over me and in my eyes, nose, and ears. But even that didn't bring me to dislike anything about fishing. It's my most favorite thing in the world to do. Anywhere, ANyhow, as long as they are there; I will try to catch them! FISH ON, and have a very fun day, GO FISHING!

Hello Billie,
We put in at Sylvian Beach all the time. I only live about 7 minutes from there so its easy. I love fishing the bay but we will drive out to the rigs. When are you going out again?

Thanks Billie! Your right, I should get down there more frequently. Don't want to wake up one day and find my life has past me by and my kids are grown and gone. Is there a website or place on here where I could learn about fishing the shore (beach, bays, & ICW) info like what gear to use, bait, what to expect to catch, and which of those options might I be more successful at. I no longer have my own boat. That was in Hawaii while I was in the Navy. Thanks for the welcome :D

Howdy Billie. Every couple of months been going up to Chambers County on Smith Point in East Galveston Bay. There are lots of fish there, way more than here around the central coast. Also, lots of big shrimp, blue crabs and still sweet fat oysters since the salinity is so low there. Lack of rainfall down here has run up the salinity and wrecked the ecosystem.
