Hey there...lots of trout over the lights at night in the canals on the Island and lots of redfish in West Bay.  I don't think I'll ever tire of fresh fish.  Not much happening today but after looking at the tide tables hoping the next four days will be excellent in the surf.  Caught the biggest spanish mackeral in the surf last week, thought it was a whale on my light tackle.  Y'all enjoy and beware of this intense heat.  God bless America!

Hello Texas!

Yeah, I was looking at the one at Walmart.  Not sure if distance will be an issue or not.  I'll be starting out with it on the Surfside Jetty probably, then get into the surf when I feel comfortable with it.

Everytime I tried a spincast as a kid I backlashed the crap out of it.  I'm 47 now- the technology probably wasn't very kind back then.  I have some mild vision issues now, and fooling around with a birds nest is just not something I think I can tolerate.

It has good adjustnents, but the new Shakespeare is the only one I know of that has that type of qualifications. I 've never tried one, but a few of the reviews sound positive. I think you lose distance with the EZ cast, but it would be a good starter.

Glenn, thanks for the response.

Does that H2O have the feature that helps with backlash?  That is a concern of mine.

I fish on a pro staff team and go through alot of rigs. I've owned high dollar rigs, but for the money I have been using the Academy H2O reels (Mettle 10BB) with the $49.95 American RodSmith Rods, and 20lb Power Pro line and they just continue to give me good service. The neat thing is that if ANYTHING goes wrong with the reel, save your reciept, and within a year, Academy will replace it.I have 4 of these reels and I will put them up against the higher priced Shamanos any day of the week. Just keep it cleaned and oiled. Total rig will run you around $125! Good luck!

Hello,
New guy needing reel advice.
I'm wanting to learn baitcasting. Need a rod and reel and am hoping to get some advice.
Money is tight so I'd like to make a good purchase up front.
I see where I can get a Shakespear EZ Cast for around $50.
I also see an Enigma Smart Cast for around $80.
Also found a Pro Qualifier at Bass Pro Shop for $80.
Under $100 is the general area I need to stay in.
Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Spencer

Boca Chica jetties are hot!! A lot of trout and reds on the surf side due to the freeze that past.   (big trout)

Fished at the ferry in Galveston in Nov. and Dec. we really did good on the flounder, too bad we had to go almost every day just to fill the freezer. this 2 fish limit a day is bullshit......
