It seems that most of the flies I use and see used are weighted or subsurface flies. Are floating flies used for reds and trout (or anything saltwater)?
Hi William, I use big heavy streamers in salt water for Salmon. Once the fish are in streams a pollywag or mouse on the surface works great some days. With a floating line and a fast strip the fly is just under the surface and that work well on agressive big Silvers and helps keep the fly above left over Pink Salmon. I would expect that Redfish as bottom feeders wouldn't see a surface fly like a popper but trout may in the right conditions. I don't know. Surface distrubance takes Snook though.
Good luck.
