If you tie your own flies or just want to buy a few, How Much Is Too Much? Have you checked out the cost of a good fly lately? What a shocker ! I tie most of my flies and people give me their newest

"Killer Pattern" so I am usually in good shape, but when you're on the road and you need a quick fix you have to pay the tyer. I don't mind that but $12 for a fly?? Come on, that's nuts. It got me thinking about the cost of flies and I did some searching. There is a great deal of difference in pricing accross the country and accross the internet. I tried all kinds of saltwater flies from all over the place. I found that many of the expensive flies aren't really that much better than the mid priced flies. All of us know what a saltwater fish does to a fly and I just couldn't see myself handing out twenty dollar bills to every third fish. How about the days when a good fly cost around a buck?

Being involved with a kayak fly & light tackle fishing tournament series has it's little perks. Now I don't want to get accused of spamming so I am very reluctant to mention names. In my search I came across a great outfit out of Utah that tie their own flies as well as import flies from private tyers. They get flies from all over the world from these private tyers that want to make a few extra bucks. I must say, some of these patterns are so perfect that it makes me want to quit tying. After looking at a couple of hundred flies I looked into the pricing and it almost brought a tear to my eye. Had I steped back in time? How about $1.75 to $3.75 max. for you store boughts? Now that's more like it with the average fly costing only $2.00 So far these flies are tough as nails and hold up to   intense fishing. Well like I said I don't want to get slammed for spam but you really have to know about these guys.I was so excited to find them that I added them as a sponsor. You have to understand that sponsors ask me all the time to carry their products in the series. I went to these guys and asked them. That's how impressed I am with their fles so check em out; RiverBum Fles.
