I am losing my patience with these Jet Ski tours going through the 10,000 Islands! I see them blowing through fertile fishing areas at mach speed, or flying through narrow creeks. What they don't realize is their wakes from a dozen ski's just kick up debris covering the plant life and it slowly kills the vegitation. No photosynthesis for the aquatic plants if their covered in mud! No plant life, no fish!
Something needs to be done, keep them off the beaches infront of their Resorts!
"BAN THE JET SKI FROM THE ISLANDS"
Something needs to be done!! I want to see what everyone thinks about this and maybe together we can do something about this issue, together we stand the more we can do!!

Thank you everyone!

You are definitely correct. Start with your elected officials, then call DEC to the scene if possible.

I agree Captain Jeff. The 10,000 islands area is very special & I would bet if you complained to the EPA or any other ECO group you could probably get them banned. It's a delicate balance in that area & was once very pristine. Not so anymore, but then nothing ever stays the same. But I would sign a petition if you can get someone to start some legislation in this matter.

Jet skis are a nuisance everywhere. However in a country based on freedom and young people`s ever expanding quest for instant gratification the best we could hope for is some logical restrictions. Perhaps a water depth requirement for operation at speed would keep them out of the seagrass. Perhaps more vigorous enforcement for unsafe operation would help slow them down when it`s not safe. Also consider making rental shop proprieters liable for ecological damage in the form of some type of insurance policy to cover restoration costs for habitat destruction. This might encourage non refundable deposits being charged upon rental further discouraging joyriding teens and tourists who are typicaly ignorant of the damage they cause or just dont care! This is not a new problem but one that has never been adequately addressed by lawmakers outside the sphere of PWC manufacturers influence

I fished stump pass today, and I couldn't fish in one spot for a period of time because of the jet ski guys. there wake makes my power pole useless in deeper areas, plus they have no care attitude toward the fisherman. BAN THE SKI'S !!!!!!!

This really pisses me off. I regularly fish the heavily pressured areas of Estero Bay and Sanibel Island. Grass beds are torn up by props and jet-skis run everywhere ruining many a good drift. The 10,000 Islands have always been a place, when I felt like doing a trailer trip, where you could find some serene fishing. I am sorry to hear the jet-skiers are there. KEEP THOSE 1-2 oz. LEAD EGG SINKERS HANDY BOYS!

We fish 10,000 Islands, love Morgan Bay UNTIL the Jet Skis show up. The guides from Marco are good about slowing down when they pass us but it just messes up the whole scene and solitude. Hate it.

No jet ski in the 10000 islands. I will sign a petition

Sounds to me like a"ban" is the answer. And petitions are the best way to start. You set a petition signed buy a few thousand people on the desk of your elected officials and you will get some attention. Before you send it out contact your local news stations and turn up the heat. In California I beleive they have gone as far as creating zones for the "idiots" and their noises makers. If they are destroying "snook" habitat give Rick Roberts @ the Snook Foundation a call and see what his thaughts are. Organisations like the Snook Foundation have pull!!! "IF YOU DONT GIVE UP YOU CAN ONLY SUCCEED"!
