We are headed to Cape San Blas on Saturday for a week of inshore fishing.
Would anyone have any suggestions?

The cape has terrific fishing and there are all kinds of ways to get them depending upon what you're after. I usually put the boat in at the state park and run out to the deeper grass beds which are in approx. 8 to 10 ft. of water. I always bring a pinfish trap and drop in around the pilings at the boat ramp area. You'll fill it up in about 10 to 15 mins. Put the pinfish about 3 to 4 ft. under a float around the deeper grass beds on an incoming or high tide. You'll catch a mixed bag of all types of fish cruising out of deep water to feed around the beds. I've caught as many as 8 different species of fish in one day doing this. Some of these will have teeth so use a min. of 40 lb fluorocarbon leader. Have some wire handy too if you want to catch small sharks. They cruise some of those beds too. You can also try the shallower grass flats early for great topwater action on trout. It helps if the tide is moving when you do this. There is also great pompano fishing around the tip of the cape. If the water is calm you can run there in an average boat in about 20 to 30 mins. from the ramp. One last thing - scallop seaon just opened so, you might want to try doing some of that also. I could go on forever about the cape. It's one of my all time favorite places to fish. Good Luck!
Thanks for the info. I can't wait to try those tactics.
Charles- on the flounder question, I have never tried but I've watched some people gig them snorkeling the shallow areas during the day. The water is so clear that you can see them just floating on the surface in 3 to 6 ft of water. I believe the area I saw them doing this was around Black's Island.
