Bottom bashing - Paternoster rig Vs running sinker to hook rig

OK guys, time to post your favourite bottom bashing rigs and tips...

(For tropical waters in particular), do you:
1- Use paternoster type rigs or something else?
2- Use live or dead bait or both if available?
3- Prefer day or night?
4- Target specific tides or times?
5- Have success with (soft plastic or jigging) lures?

Cheers,

Ant

1-Bottom bashing on a reef definately pataenoster rig
2 - Can't beat live bait
3 - Day fishing is great - got missus and kids
4 - Big tides running sinkers in creeks(Salmon, Barra, Grunter, Mangrove Jack) - small tides or neaps fish the reef(snapper, blue bone, coral trout and pelagics)(always fish the last hour or two of out going tide plus the incoming(you would be suprised what can hang around at the bottom of the tide.
5- Love surface poppa's and silver spoons ect are always fun, try casting a poppa at a surfacing reef one day can be alot of fun. Soft plastics - yet to try

thats my 2 cents worth hope it helped
hi guys. as i spend most of my time fishing over reefs and broken bottom, i prefer to use paternoster rigs. however when fishing for snapper, i use a running sinker rig where the sinker is clipped onto the main line above a swivel by a running clip. below the swivel i usually have about 500mm of 30-40 pound line to a 8o-9o suicide snelled hooks. the clip makes it easy to change the weight of the sinker depending on the strength of the currend and tidal movement.
